Red rose

I wrote this for our 26th anniversary

As the water wears away stones

You calm my groans

My sorrows, like torrents

Shrivels like currants

When my eyes grow dim

And joy becomes slim

You hold me close

Then, I stop being morose

And bloom like a red rose

My fragmented heart

Was torn apart

It bled and bled

Until, almost dead

But we endured together

In the stormy weather

Your affection, so deep

Makes my heart leap

Nothing has gone amiss

In our twenty six years of bliss

Often I rely on your wits

You’re much sweeter than a kiss!
